Awami League President Makhlichur Rahman of Gobindganj Sidergaon UP of Chatak Upazila has been arrested by the police on charges of attacking the student crowd in Sunamganj during the anti-discrimination student movement. He is known as the uncle of Sunamganj-5 Constituency former Member of Parliament Muhibur Rahman Manik.

On Saturday morning, Awami League's UP President Mukhlishur Rahman was arrested from his house in Burairgaon village of Upazila Gobindganj Sidergaon UP. Preparations are underway to send him to court.

Golam Kibria Hasan, OC of Chatak Police Station, said that he was handed over to Sunamganj Sadar Police Station within an hour. There is a case against him in Sadar police station.

It is known that on August 4, the plaintiff's brother Zahoor Ahmad was shot dead in the students' program. Hafiz Ahmad is the son of Nazir Ahmad of Erowakhi village in Lakshipur union of Doarabazar upazila. A case has been filed against 99 people including former Planning Minister MA Mannan and three former members of Parliament.

The notable accused in this case are - former member of parliament of Sunamganj-5 constituency Muhibur Rahman Manik, former member of parliament of Sunamganj-1 constituency Ranjit Sarkar, former member of parliament Moazzem Hossain Ratan, district Awami League president Nurul Huda Mukut, general secretary Noman Bakhat Palin, former municipal Mayor Nader Bakhat, former Upazila Chairman Khairul Huda Chapal, Sunamganj Additional Superintendent of Police Rajan Kumar Das, Sadar Police Station OC Khaled Chowdhury and SI Riaz Ahmad.

In this case, 99 people including Awami League, Jubo League, Chhatra League, Swachhasebak League, Jatiya Party leaders and journalists and 200 others have been accused.

According to the case, on August 4 anti-discrimination student movement march, on the orders of the former planning minister and the accused, common students were attacked with indigenous weapons including bullets, sound grenades. Many students were shot.
