2. Memorial Complex and its Environment
The National Memorial is not just a monument, it is a huge complex. Spread over 84 acres, this complex has an attractive wide entrance, a good parking system, various types of flowering trees and an artificial pond. The pond reflects the image of the memorial and in it blooms the lotus flower, which is the symbol of the national flower of Bangladesh. Inside the complex there are also open stages, reception rooms, mosques, helipads and cafeterias. There are also ten mass graves here, where many unknown martyred freedom fighters are buried. The long walkways, high and low courtyards and stairs at the entrance of the memorial symbolize the nation's long struggle and ups and downs for achieving independence. It is an important tourist attraction for tourists and heads of state from home and abroad, where they come to pay homage to the martyrs of Bangladesh's independence struggle.
