Saiful Islam, Manikganj: Residents of Garpara Union of Manikganj Sadar Upazila staged a human chain and protest demanding quick arrest and punishment of the notorious drug empress Akalima Akhter and other drug dealers of her family.
Hundreds of men and women of Garpara-Jagir Union were present in this human chain held at Tenarimor area of Sadar Upazila at around 10:30 am on Monday (October 7).
Speaking at the human bond, Md. Hossain Ali, Moynal Hossain, Md. Sahim Uddin, Khabir Uddin, Aktar Hossain, Hamed Ali, Shefali Bewa, Khushi Begum, Pakhi Akhtar and many others.
At this time, the speakers said, drug empress Akalima Akhter, her husband, father, brother and all the family members are involved in drug trade. Even before this, they have been arrested and jailed several times with drugs. During the previous government, they were involved in various crimes including drug trade with the shelter of local influentials. This family used to harass the local people in various ways including occupying other people's land, harassing them with false cases. The youth of the area is facing destruction today due to their free drug trade. Degradation of society cannot be prevented if their evil deeds are not stopped. They demanded quick arrest and punishment of Akalima and other drug dealers of her family involved in drug trade.
Regarding the matter, Manikganj Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) SM Aman Ullah said that currently there is no arrest warrant against Akalima Akhtar. He is regularly appearing in all the cases against him. However, if he is still involved in the drug trade, the investigation will continue and efforts will be made to arrest him along with the drugs.
