He said if the government fails to set priorities, the expected transition to democracy may stumble.

Acting Chairman of BNP made these comments in a discussion meeting on the occasion of Ziaur Rahman Foundation's Silver Jubilee at Engineers Institution Auditorium in the capital on Friday (October 18) afternoon.

Tariq Rahman said that the increase in the price of daily commodities is currently causing distress to the lower and middle class people in the country. The prices of daily commodities are beyond reach. Therefore, the interim government should take practical and strict measures to control the prices of products. He urged to increase the size of the advisory council if necessary to break the mafia syndicate.

Acting Chairman of BNP said that the interim government should be people-oriented. Reform is a continuous and ongoing process. Any reform without public participation does not yield good results.

He said, many leaders and activists of the mafia government seized the property of many dissidents. Effective steps need to be taken by the government to rescue them from the encroachers.
