Now a Polish radio station is running its broadcasts with AI presenters instead of journalists. The station is facing a lot of controversy.

According to a CNN report, OFF Radio Krakow in the southern Polish city of Krakow does not have the initiative. The radio station says their initiative is the first test in Poland. They ran a show using artificial intelligence instead of journalists. They are going to use artificial intelligence-created virtual characters or avatars to gain popularity among young audiences. In this initiative, they have planned to conduct radio programs on cultural, industrial and social issues with three virtual characters.
Marcin Pulit, head of the station, said in a statement, "We will look for answers to the question of whether artificial intelligence is an opportunity or a threat for media, radio and journalism."
Mateusz Demski, a former journalist and film critic at the station, expressed concern in an open letter about the replacement of human workers by artificial intelligence. Demsky said it sets a dangerous precedent that hurts everyone. This could pave the way for machines to replace experienced workers in the media and creative industries. For this reason, he published an open letter on Tuesday (October 22). After that, discussion and criticism started on the matter.
As of Wednesday (October 23) morning, more than 15,000 signatures have been collected on Demski's petition. He said that many young people are against such tests. He added that he was fired last August from OFF Radio Krakow, a government tax-supported station. Station chief Pulit, however, claims that no one has been fired for AI. Rather, journalists were retrenched due to near-zero audience numbers.
On the other hand, the country's digital affairs minister, Krzysztof Gakowski, said there is a need for legislation on AI, although he is in favor of AI development. He wrote on social media X that it is important to have certain boundaries when it comes to the use of AI.
