Jumbangla Desk: Yesterday, Saturday morning, such an agricultural product special train left from Rahanpur railway station in Chapainawabganj. The international government has taken various initiatives to reduce the prices of unbridled agricultural products. As a part of that, railways have launched special trains to deliver agricultural products to different parts of the country at low cost.
Agricultural produce special train
Special facilities have been given in this train to transport agricultural products. The train has 20 seats for businessmen. The train stopped at five stations till Rajshahi to get vegetables, but no agricultural produce was picked up. 150 kg empty cages of eggs are collected at Rajshahi railway station alone. However, the cost of the railway authority to run the train on this route is about 9 lakh taka.
Railway sources said that they can travel in this train without fare. This train has refrigerated luggage vans in addition to normal luggage vans. Perishable products including fish and meat can be transported through this. The fare from Rahanpur to Dhaka will be 1 taka 30 paisa per kg. But farmers are not showing much interest in it.
Vegetable farmers say that train fare is less than truck-pickup. But the freight cost for transporting the goods by train, separate transportation cost from crop field to station and station to destination is falling to more than 3 rupees per kg. But it costs two to two and a half taka per kg to transport goods by road.
Businessmen say they don't know anything about this train. Although the railway officials claim that despite a lot of publicity, there has been no response as expected in the transport of agricultural products by train. They hope that farmers will respond in the future.
