The Thai Meteorological Department said heavy rains caused flooding conditions in Nakhon Si Thammarat, Phatthalung, Sankhla, Pattani, Yala, Narathiwat, Krabi, Trang and Satun provinces. More than 5,53,000 families have been affected due to these floods.

Of this, 102,494 families and 557 villages were flooded in Phatthalung province alone. One person died there. Eight others died in Pattani, Yala, and Sankhla provinces.

The Meteorological Department has also warned that the heavy rainfall in the southern region may continue till December 1-2.


Meanwhile, floods have also occurred in some northern provinces of neighboring Malaysia. Four people have died in the last three days. Besides, lakhs of people have been forced to leave their homes and seek shelter elsewhere.

Malaysia's state-run Bernama news agency said the situation is likely to worsen.
