(6) of Chhota Binnadayir village in Rupbati union of Shahjadpur upazila of Sirajganj. They claim that the main culprit in the murder is the deceased child's maternal uncle Arafat Hossain (16). The accused killed the child after seeing his maternal uncle smoking a bidi.
Arafat was the son of Yunus Ali of that village and the cousin of Lamia's mother Mina Khatun. He was studying in the eighth grade of Baghabari Senior Fazil Madrasa.
Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Md. Kamruzzaman gave this information at a press conference held at Shahjadpur Police Station office around 10:30 am on Thursday.
At the press conference, the ASP
said that yesterday, June 3, at around 2:30 pm, the assassin Arafat was sitting in a room of Awami leader Rupa Rahman's abandoned house and smoking a bidi. At that time, child Lamia went there to pick up Jamrul. Lamia went there and saw Arafat smoking a bidi. Lamia told her grandfather to tell the matter. Arafat told Lamia not to tell her father about smoking a bidi. But the child did not listen to her uncle and left to go to her grandfather.

At that time, Arafat grabbed Lamia
from behind and held her mouth. Lamia fell to the ground unable to breathe. Then Arafat put the towel that was with the child in Lamia's mouth. Later, Arafat brought a tape from his house and tied Lamia's hands. Then, as blood was coming out of her nose, he tied her nose with the tape. Lamia died. Then Arafat planned to hide the body. He took out Lamia's body from the window of the house, threw it into the septic tank and put a lid on it. Then, he returned home and continued to do his normal activities. When Lamia could not be found, Arafat also started searching here and there along with everyone.
