Portugal have reached the final of the UEFA Nations

Germany 2-1. Cristiano Ronaldo's

men will face the winner of the match between Spain and France on Thursday in the title-deciding match

Cristiano Ronaldo played a major role in Portugal's victory on Wednesday night. The 40-year-old, five-time Ballon d'Or winner scored the decisive goal for the Portuguese team.

Ronaldo became the oldest player to score against Germany, breaking the country's 'curse' after the former Real Madrid star had lost all five of his previous matches against Germany, and Portugal beat Germany for the first time since 2000.

Germany dominated the first half

of the match but were held back by goalkeeper Diogo Costa, who made a brilliant save early in the match from a low shot by German star Leon Goretzka.

Germany took the lead in the 48th minute when Florian Wirtz effortlessly headed home from Joshua Kimmich's perfect pass.

Portugal equalised in the 63rd minute through substitute Francisco Conceicao . Just five minutes later, the 40-year-old Ronaldo scored his 137th international goal to put Portugal 2-1 up. With the goal, he became the hero of the match as captain.

The victory was special for Conceicao,

as his father, Sergio Conceicao, also scored a hat-trick on the day of Portugal's last victory against Germany in 2000.

Portugal coach Roberto Martinez said: "We will enjoy this victory. After a long time we won against Germany. Tactically we were great and our commitment helped the team. It's a victory for the whole team."
