Barcelona in La Liga home venue

Barcelona's venue dilemma continues. The Catalan club's request

to play its La Liga match against Valencia

next month at their opponents' ground has been rejected by league authorities. Barcelona are facing this problem because the Camp Nou stadium is not ready on time. The stadium has been undergoing renovations for more than two years.

Barcelona are playing three away matches at the start of this La Liga season. They are scheduled to play their fourth-round match against Valencia at Camp Nou on September 14.

But Barcelona requested more time to play the match at Valencia's Mestalla stadium. According to Spanish radio station Cadena Cope, La Liga has rejected the club's request.

Barcelona have played their home matches at the Olympic Stadium in Montjuic for the past two seasons, but they will not be able to play their match against Valencia there because a concert is scheduled to take place there the same week.

If the Camp Nou is not ready in time, Barcelona will have two options for the match against Valencia: either the 6,000-capacity Johan Cruyff Stadium, home to Barcelona's women's team, or the Montilivi Stadium, home to Barcelona's city rivals Girona.

Barcelona last played at Camp Nou in May 2023. Since then, extensive renovations have begun here. The stadium has been renamed Spotify Camp Nou as part of a jersey and stadium sponsorship deal with audio streaming platform Spotify.

Barcelona had initially planned

to return to Camp Nou in November 2024, but that date has been repeatedly pushed back. Earlier last month, the club announced that they would return to the stadium with the Joan Gamper Trophy. They later changed their plans and played their match against Italian club Como at the Johan Cruyff Stadium on August 10.

The Camp Nou renovations are unlikely to be fully completed before the start of the 2026-27 season. Barcelona are planning to host matches there with a capacity of 50,000 to 60,000 spectators. The renovations will take place during the off-season.

Barcelona has started its campaign to retain the title in La Liga by winning its first two matches of the season.
