Jumbangla Desk: UP member Nazir Baig, who attacked the students with indigenous weapons during the anti-discrimination student movement in Algi North Union No. 2 of Haimchar Upazila of Chandpur, has been elected as the panel chairman.

Another UP member of the union made a written complaint to the UNO. Farooq Islam Ghazi. However, the upazila executive officer said that if the panel chairman is not appointed within 90 days of the election, it does not fall within the rules.

Azharul Islam, the administrative officer of the union council, confirmed the fact that the panel chairman was elected on Tuesday (September 17) afternoon. He said that after August 5, the chairman does not come to the council regularly. come sometimes On September 2, the chairman called all UP members in his area and elected the panel chairman through voting. We have sent those documents to the Upazila Nirbahi officer.

He is not able to come to the council, the civic services are being disrupted. In such a situation, the panel took the initiative to elect the chairman. Two candidates were nominated for the post of panel chairman. Out of this, Nazir Beg got 6 votes and I got 6 votes. But because Nazir Beg was the leader of the Jubo League, he was elected by the chairman with his own vote.

He also said that on September 3, I complained to the upazila executive officer. He called all our UP members to the Upazila Parishad on September 11 and learned about the matter. He said that action will be taken in this regard as per the rules. And he said about the chairman whether we have any problem if he sits in the council. We all UP members said we have no problem if the chairman can sit in the council.

The attackers of the students and the chairman-selected panel chairman Nazir Baig were called several times for a statement. It was not possible to speak as he did not answer the phone. He was not found even after searching the Union Parishad. However, the video footage of the attack on the students has reached the media.

Meanwhile, Ahsan Habib, the leader of Upazila Chhatra Dal, has filed a case in Haimchar police station regarding the attack on students during the anti-discrimination student movement last August. Chairman Atiqur Rahman Patwari is accused in that case. Also, in another case of Sadar, the accused is the chairman. He is now absconding as the accused in the case. That is why it was not possible to take his statement.

Haimchar Upazila Executive Officer (UAON) Umme Salma Nazneen Trisha said, I have received the complaint. Called UP members and spoke. The panel is to be done within 90 days after the election of the chairman. It was not done in this council. Then there is no question of doing it now. However, I have sent the documents regarding this matter to the higher authorities.
