But due to the high price, many people have to go back without buying hilsa. Buyers say that the price needs to be reduced by Tk 200 to Tk 300 per kg. Because the price of hilsa is higher in Chandpur Ghat than in Dhaka.
On Wednesday (September 25) Chandpur fish landing center met many sellers and buyers. Among them, the number of retail buyers is hundreds. There is a lot of busyness in retail hilsa sales in the villages. Wholesale and retail sale of hilsa starts at 9 am. Runs from 9 pm to 10 pm.
At the Chandpur fish landing center, Sagar, a buyer from Uttara, Dhaka, said, "This is the first time I have come to Chandpur to buy hilsa." The idea was that the price would be lower here. But here it is 200 to 300 taka more per kg than in Dhaka.
At the same time, Rashid, who came to buy hilsa, said that he heard that the price of hilsa in Chandpur is low. It is said that the price of mangoes in Amtla is high. I came here and saw that image. Hilsa which is sold in Dhaka for 1200 taka. That hilsa is being sold here starting from 1400 to 1600 taka. Traders say that hilsa is being caught in the river and the price is high for it.
Miraj Uddin, a buyer from Jessore, said that he came mainly to buy hilsa. But it would have been better if the price was a little lower. One kilogram of hilsa costs 1400 taka. But here it is selling for 1600 to 1800 taka. Ordinary buyers can buy hilsa of all sizes by reducing Tk 200 to Tk 300 per kg.
Many retail hilsa sellers at the ghat said that even though it is a full season now, less hilsa is being caught in the river than before. A ban on catching mother hilsa is coming. The demand for hilsa for worship is increasing. Hilsa will not be sent to India. Hilsa has to be sold at a higher price due to various reasons.
Talking to several buyers, it was found that they are satisfied with Chandpur Hilsa. But the objection is about the price. Hilsa is being sold at the same price in almost all supermarkets and retail stores. It seems there is a syndicate between them. That is why the price of hilsa is not decreasing.
Abdul Bari Jamadar Manik, president of Chandpur Matsya Vanik Sambay Samity Limited, said that the production of hilsa is gradually decreasing every year. Accordingly, the demand has increased. But relative prices have not increased. We have to sell in light of the purchase. However, if the supply increases at the end of the season and hilsa is caught in the river, the price will decrease somewhat. But the price of hilsa cannot be reduced due to complaints from buyers.
