Jumbangla Desk: Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim is coming to Dhaka on a short visit on October 4 to take the relationship between the two countries to the next level by exploring new areas of cooperation in Bangladesh and strengthening relations in various fields.

An official of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said on Monday that Anwar Ibrahim is visiting Bangladesh at the invitation of the chief advisor Professor Muhammad Yunus.

Last August Professor Yunus invited him to visit Bangladesh soon to further strengthen the brotherly relationship between the two countries.

A senior official of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that the matter of the visit is confirmed so far. The Prime Minister of Malaysia may stay in Dhaka for a few hours.

Mentioning that Malaysia is the eighth largest investor country in Bangladesh, the official said that apart from the manpower issue, there will be discussions on other ongoing cooperation including potential sectors.

The Prime Minister of Malaysia will hold a bilateral meeting with Chief Adviser Prof. Muhammad Yunus in addition to several other programs in Dhaka.


Anwar Ibrahim personally congratulated his old friend Professor Muhammad Yunus by calling him after he took over as the chief advisor to the interim government of Bangladesh last August.

Malaysia has a long-standing good relationship with Professor Yunus.

"I have assured him that Malaysia is ready to support and assist the interim government in restoring peace and security in Bangladesh," said the Malaysian Prime Minister.

The official of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that Malaysia is going to be the next chairman of ASEAN in January 2025 and the Rohingya issue will also be discussed in the meeting.

At least 7 universities in Malaysia have Yunus Centers, promoting his social business and his Three-Zero concept.

Several Malaysian companies have invested more than $5 billion in Bangladesh and are now interested in investing more, including in education.

A second car manufacturer in Malaysia has signed an agreement with a Chittagong-based company for distribution and assembly of cars.
