Zoom-Bangla Desk: As the saying goes, mangoes are ripe, jam is ripe, uncle's pela is ripe. In accordance with these words, the fruit should be placed in the palms of both hands and turned and softened and then eaten. If not, the ripe fruit also looks bitter and hard. If not pressed, the fruit is not tasty. For this reason in many areas Pela Gota is also called Tipa Fruit.

An obsolete and almost lost wild fruit of the country is named Pela gota or tipa fruit. Once upon a time, in the wild bushes near the house, the gota tree found in the shallow forest was seen. Children used to run to the tree to eat the fruit of this tree full of sharp thorns. The fruit was eaten with a long bamboo stick. Adults did not eat this fruit much. Those trees are no longer visible. Due to various reasons, this fruit tree has almost disappeared from the village. Because of this, the whole is now unknown to many people. However, at present, Pelagota trees can be seen in Kurigram, Lalmonirhat, Rajshahi and Narsingdi along with hilly and sub-tropical regions of the country.

In the hilly regions the fruit is called Painagola, in Sylhet it is called Lukluki, in Rajshahi it is called Pelagota, in Narsingdi it is called Tipa fruit, in Barisal it is called Payna or Paniala. Although this fruit has multiple names depending on the region, its English name is Ohfordhah Chachans or Idbhabhava Chachans. The scientific name is Rishadhapardanthardh Audhahamardsdhang. It is a tree belonging to the 'willow' family of the rainfed regions of lowland and hilly areas.

Pelagota is not cultivated anywhere in our country. Not only Pelago, but our own results are better researched. As a result, due to the excess of foreign fruits, our native fruits do not get a chance to go to the market. But compared to many foreign fruits, our fruits are more nutritious.

Pelagota fruit trees are not very large, medium sized trees. The height of the tree is 6 to 10 meters. When the tree is small, there are many thorns at the base. Large ones do not have thorns. Leaves are light green, glossy, narrowly ovate and pointed. Flowers are small, whitish green and fragrant. Fruit round like marble. The color of the unripe fruit is green. As soon as it ripens, the color of the peel changes to brown. At the end the peke turns dark purple. The tree flowers in March-April. Fruit ripens in July-August.

Ripe pods are soft, juicy, mildly sweet, seedy and sour-sweet in taste. Chutney can also be cooked with ripe fruits. Seedlings grow from seeds. Papaya fruit can also be chewed directly when ripe. However, the sweetness and taste increases when the ripe fruit is kept between the palms of both hands and softened.
