Environment, Forest and Climate Change Adviser Syeda Rizwana Hasan commented that if there is no uniform water policy, the flood risk will increase in the country.
He made this comment at the 'Annual Community of Practice (COP) Network Convention' organized by the 'Empowerment: Women for a Climate Resilient Society (Phase 2)' project on Sunday (October 6) morning.
Syeda Rizwana Hasan said that due to climate change, extreme weather conditions including floods have been created in Sherpur, Feni, Noakhali. We ourselves are responsible for this. Everyone has to work together along with the government to deal with the adverse effects of climate.
He said, 'We all complain about floods, hot weather. But they do not understand the effect of climate change.'
Syeda Rizwana called for regional cooperation as well as upstream and downstream countries to work together to face the challenges of climate change.
The advisor said, 'Flooding is caused by excessive rain and the release of water upstream without warning. Climate change is also a factor.'
Many dams in the country are abandoned. He also said that if the challenge of climate change is not addressed in the future and there is no uniform water policy, the risk will increase.
Mentioning that the crop seed crisis has come to the fore after the flood, the adviser added that seeds were not available after the flood. But if seeds were stored at home, the government would not have faced a seed crisis. But we have given all responsibility to the company without saving the seeds.
