Jumbangla Desk: The government has decided to adopt a special strategy to reduce the price of eggs. From now on, large egg producing companies and small farmers will send eggs directly to the wholesale hatchery at the price set by the government. There will be no middlemen. As a result, the wholesalers will sell the eggs to the retailers at the price set by the government.

EGG

This decision was taken in a meeting organized on the price and supply of eggs at the office of the Directorate of National Consumer Rights Protection in Karwan Bazar of the capital on Tuesday (October 15).

The meeting was attended by egg producers, wholesalers and suppliers. This new decision was taken after the price of eggs increased a lot in the market.

At the end of the meeting, Director General of the Directorate of Consumer Affairs. Alim Akhter Khan said that one of the reasons behind the sudden increase in the price of eggs is middlemen. There is some manipulation involved in selling eggs from production to wholesale level. They observed that eggs changed hands five times from the producer to the consumer stage. The new decision will reduce two-three hands (steps). As a result, buyers can buy eggs at a lower price.

Alim Akhter Khan said, "According to the decision of the meeting, corporate traders and farmers will supply eggs directly to the wholesale traders at reasonable prices fixed by the government from tomorrow Wednesday." Wholesalers will also sell eggs to retailers at reasonable prices. There will be no middlemen in between. Big businessmen have confirmed this. So we can be sure that the wholesalers will get the eggs at the price set by the government. We want to have faith and trust in the word they have given us.'

Recently the Department of Agriculture Marketing fixed the 'reasonable price' of eggs. As per the fixed price, the price of each egg is to be Rs 10 58 paise at the production level, Rs 11 01 paise at the wholesale level and Rs 11 87 paise at the retail level (a dozen Rs 142 Rs 44 paise). However, eggs are being sold at much higher prices in the market. On Tuesday, eggs were sold at Tk 180-190 per dozen in different markets of the capital.
