Jumbangla Desk: The International Criminal Tribunal has started the trial of the genocide allegations that took place in July and August during the anti-discrimination student movement. The tribunal issued an arrest warrant against former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on the first day of the trial. Sheikh Hasina, who is in India, was ordered to appear before November 18. Earlier, the prosecution applied for his arrest.

On Thursday (October 17) around 12:30 PM, the International Criminal Tribunal Chairman Justice Md. Bench headed by Ghulam Mortuza. The hearing against the rest of the accused is going on in the tribunal.

In the opening speech of the tribunal, Chief Prosecutor Tajul Islam summarized the crimes against humanity during the Awami regime, including the killing of 74 people in the BDR rebellion, the killing of the custody rally in Shapla area, the extrajudicial killing of RAB, the July-August massacre.


Meanwhile, the Chief Prosecutor of the International Criminal Tribunal, Advocate Tajul Islam, has also informed that Interpol's assistance will be taken to bring back the fugitives including Sheikh Hasina.

Earlier on Tuesday (October 15), the chairman of the tribunal, Justice Golam Mortuza Majumder, came to the International Criminal Tribunal on the first working day after his appointment. In addition, two members of the tribunal, Justice Md. Shafiul Alam Mahmud and retired District and Sessions Judge Mohitul Haque Enam Chowdhury came to the tribunal that day. At this time the Registrar and other officials of the Tribunal welcomed them.
