Jumbangla Desk: Matia Chowdhury was a brave freedom fighter. Elected Member of National Parliament six times. He has served three terms as a minister. This veteran leader of Awami League was the deputy leader of the 12th National Assembly.

During the Liberation War in 1971, he played the role of an organizer in the formation of a joint guerilla force of the NAP-Communist Party-Student Union. Participated in the front war.

Although he was supposed to be buried with state honor as a brave freedom fighter and one of the organizers of the liberation war, there was no arrangement for a guard of honor from the state at any of his funerals. There was no official of the administration.

Matia Chowdhury's political life was illustrious, but his personal life was quite simple. The final farewell of Matia Chowdhury, the 'fiery girl' of Bangladeshi politics who lives behind a cotton saree in Atpaur, is just as simple as her daily life.

On Thursday afternoon, Matia Chowdhury was laid to rest in the grave of her husband, journalist Bazlur Rahman, at the Shaheed Intellectual Cemetery in Mirpur.

Earlier, his funeral was held at Azad Mosque in Gulshan around 11:30 am. However, no top leader of the party was seen there. Most of them have remained in the dark since the change of political pot in the country. Again, the sword of the case is hanging over the head of many.

However, Banani Swachhasevak League paid tribute to Matia Chowdhury at Azad Mosque. The leaders and activists of this organization also give flowers on behalf of Bangladesh Awami League. Apart from this, the Liberation War Museum, Bangabandhu Krishibid Parivar, Dainik Sangbad Parivar, Special Guerrilla Force, Mani Singh Farhad Memorial Trust and his family also paid tribute to the coffin.

At the end of the funeral, when the car carrying the body of Matiar Chowdhury left the Azad Mosque, the leaders and activists who were present bid farewell to him by chanting 'Joy Bangla'.

Awami League also paid respects at the first funeral at his home in Ramna in the morning. At that time, political colleagues, followers and relatives gathered to see him for the last time. The first funeral was held there.

When asked about this, Darus Salam police station OC Rakibul Hossain said, 'We have not been told anything about Matia Chowdhury's guard of honour. We have only been buried here after completing all the activities including the funeral. A guard of honor is usually provided where the funeral is held.'

Although the funeral was held in Gulshan, the OC of this police station, Touhid Ahmed, says that they have not been given any instructions about giving a guard of honor to Matia Chaudhuri.

Matia Chowdhury's sister Mahmuda Chowdhury said during the last farewell, "His whole life was spent in sacrifice and struggle, he did it for people."

Journalist Iqbal Sobhan Chowdhury commented that a history has come to an end through his death. Journalist leader Manjurul Ahsan Bulbul also came.

Former minister and Awami League presidium member Matia Chowdhury passed away at Evercare Hospital in Dhaka on Wednesday (October 16) afternoon. He was 82 years old.

Matia Chowdhury's chapter comes to an end at a time when the Bangladesh Awami League is going through one of the toughest times in its history. The party had to be ousted from power through the coup of the students, and the leader of the party, Sheikh Hasina, had to leave the country.
