According to US and European weather forecast models, a cyclone is likely to form in the Bay of Bengal between October 21 and 26. The cyclone when formed will be known as 'Dana', named after Qatar. It may hit the coast of Barisal division and Odisha state of India.

The cyclone is expected to hit the coast between October 24 and 26.

In a notification on Thursday, India's meteorological agency IMD said that there is a strong possibility of a cyclone forming in the North Andaman Sea around October 20. Due to this, a low pressure may develop in the central Bay of Bengal around October 22.

Meteorologist Mustafa Kamal Palash said most weather forecast models, including those of the United States and the European Union, indicated a cyclone forming in the Bay of Bengal between October 21 and 26.

He added that the European weather model forecast on Wednesday indicated a 70-80% chance of cyclone formation. Cyclone forecasts made by US and European weather offices are mostly accurate.
