In this regard, the ECB said, a person who has gone through male puberty cannot convert and play in Tier One and Tier Two, the top two tiers of the women's country. However, there is no bar to women's participation below the third level of domestic cricket and transitioning to recreational cricket.

The ECB said it took into account the interplay between 'extensive consultation, fairness, security and inclusiveness' before taking a decision in this regard. It said, 'The ECB has decided, after taking into account the wide range of views gathered during the consultation process, the deliberations conducted in 2023 and the relevant scientific and medical evidence, that from 2025 the same policy as the ICC will be adopted for women's professional domestic cricket.'

It should be noted that in the UK, transgenders are already banned from swimming, cycling, athletics, rugby league and rugby union. This ban has also been given in cricket.
