Jumbangla Desk: Police have arrested a BNP leader named Mamun Ali alias King Ali in a case of extortion, vandalism and looting in business establishments in Chittagong.

When he was sent to court on Friday (October 18) afternoon, the court ordered him to be sent to prison.

Mamun Ali is a former member of Chittagong City BNP. Najimur Rahman, metropolitan member secretary of BNP said that he is not currently in any position.

Arif Moinuddin, manager of N Mohammad Trading, filed a case at the Pahartali police station on Thursday against King Ali and his brother Lokman Ali of encroachment, looting of goods, vandalism and extortion.

In the statement of the case, it is said that in the year 2021, N Mohammad Trading has been doing business by renting premises from a person named Atahar Ishraq. Mainly their stone business. King Ali's brother Lokman Ali went to their establishment last Wednesday around 5:30 pm and threatened to eviction and loot the goods.

At least 200 people led by BNP leader King Ali entered the institution with indigenous weapons and sticks at around 12 noon on Thursday. Then started abusing and at one stage beating the employees. Some were injured. When asked to know the reason for the beating, the accused vandalized various things including CCTV cameras, various vehicles of the institution, pay-loader excavator, truck, water pump and caused a loss of around two crore rupees. After that, King Ali entered the office room of the institution and took Tk 30 lakh in cash and threatened to pay another Tk 1 crore in order to run the institution. Later they took 10 to 15 trucks and looted the company's goods worth about Tk 1 crore 40 lakh.
