Shakib wanted to leave the country in white with the South Africa Test series starting on Monday (October 21). However, BCB discouraged this former Awami League member of Parliament from coming to the country on the advice of Sports Advisor Asif Mahmud to avoid any untoward situation.

Earlier, however, Shakib's detractors had been opposing his participation in the game on home soil. However, after Shakib decided not to return to the country, a group of people claimed to be Shakib fans and demanded that their favorite player be allowed to return to the country to play.

Being interrupted, they tried to hold a press conference. But in the meantime, some local people came and chased Shakib fans and beat them up. Later, when the police chased them, they dispersed.
