Big blow to Bengaluru's dreams after losing 7 wickets for 16 runs

Royal Challengers Bangalore had a chance to finish

in the top two in the IPL 2025 playoffs.

They were following the script against Sunrisers Hyderabad on Friday in Lucknow. Chasing 232 runs, they were in great form after 15 overs. But then the team lost 7 wickets for 16 runs. They lost by a huge margin of 42 runs. This loss dealt a major blow to Bangalore's chances of finishing in the top two.

The match took a turn towards the end. Both teams had equal chances in the match. However, Bangalore had the momentum. The team had a target of 65 runs in 30 balls in the last five overs. With the momentum in their favor, Bangalore were the favorites.

But then came Ishan Malinga's over. First a run-out, then two wickets in a row, he changed the whole picture. That one over was the major factor in Bangalore's defeat.

Earlier, Hyderabad batted from the very beginning. Abhishek Sharma was aggressive in the powerplay. They scored 54 runs in just four overs by hitting a storm of fours and sixes. Then Ishan Kishan and Heinrich Klaasen took over. Despite losing wickets at times, the pace of runs did not slow down. Aniket Verma scored 26 runs off 9 balls.

Ishan Kishan, however, was impeccable.

He reached 50 quickly and led the team to a huge total by keeping one edge ahead. He became more aggressive in the last over and remained unbeaten on 94 runs. Sunrisers finally scored 231 runs in 20 overs.

In reply, Bengaluru started well in the powerplay. Virat Kohli was leading the innings alone. They scored 72 runs without losing any wickets in six overs. Then Phil Salt shone in the middle overs. He scored a half-century off 27 balls. Bengaluru was ahead at this stage.

Kohli, Salt, Mayank went back one by one. Then Jitesh Sharma fought a little but could not extend the innings.

Then came the over. Ishan Malinga first ran out Rajat Patidar with a great direct throw. On the next ball, Romario Shepherd took the catch with his own hand. Then Jitesh went back and caught it near the boundary.

Injured Tim David came on as a last

ditch effort. But he couldn't walk properly. He could only play big shots. Malinga exploited that weakness. He increased the pressure with three dot balls and got David back with the fourth ball.

That's where it all ended for Bangalore. They were all out for 189 runs in 19.5 overs.

After this win, Sunrisers Hyderabad

will travel to Delhi for their last match to play against Kolkata Knight Riders. While Bangalore will play their last league match against Lucknow Super Giants on May 27. Before that match, they will know if they have any chance of finishing in the top two or not.
