National elections must be held by December: Tarique Rahman

BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman said, ``The national election must

be held by next December,

the national election will be held by December.''He urged party leaders and activists and countrymen to prepare for the elections, saying, "Start preparing for the national elections to be held by December. You will vote and choose who will be your representatives."

He said, "It seems that there has been or is a lot of hesitation about the upcoming national elections. The future of the upcoming national elections is revolving around the novel conditions of so-called less reforms and more reforms. The people are starting to believe that behind the delay in reforms, some inside and outside the interim government seem to have different intentions."

Tarique Rahman was giving a virtual speech at the 'Youth Rally' organized by three BNP affiliate organizations in Dhaka.

Addressing the interim government,

he said, "Do not make pro-democracy and pro-democracy political parties your opponents. If any of you want to remain in power, resign and come to the polls. If you get the people's vote in the elections, fulfill the responsibilities of the government."

Tarique Rahman mentioned that neutrality and credibility are the assets of the current interim government.

"I urge and advise them - it would not be right for the interim government to take any steps that would destroy the trust and love of the people. Do not make pro-democracy and pro-democracy political parties your opponents," he said.

Tarique Rahman said that 30 million voters did not get the opportunity to vote for the candidate of their choice. Along with the reform issue, visible preparations should be made for holding national elections.

"In the past, caretaker governments

have held impartial elections at various times. In every case, the caretaker government has successfully conducted national elections within three months. There is a record in Bangladesh that elections are possible within three months. But today, I see that it has been ten months since the interim government announced the date of the elections," he said.

"But the national election must be held by next December. The national election will be held by next December," Tarek said, urging party leaders and activists and the countrymen to prepare for the election. - BBC Bangla
