65,000 primary schools getting high

The government has taken a major initiative to increase the

technology in primary education across the country.

The Directorate of Information and Communication Technology under the Information and Communication Technology Division is implementing the 'Establishing Digital Connections (EDC)' (1st Revised) project. Under this project, high-speed broadband internet connections are being provided to 65,567 government primary schools in the country.

The work of establishing this connection has already been completed in about 18,000 schools . Vigorous efforts are underway to complete the connection process in the remaining schools as well.

It is learned that the project period has been set until June 2025. ISPs (Internet Service Providers) have been instructed to continue their activities during Eid-ul-Azha and other government holidays to provide internet to all schools within this period. For this, ISPs have been asked to prepare an upazila-based action plan and inform the concerned upazila education officer and school principal at least three days in advance.

A recent letter from the Department

of Primary Education said that the work of creating the necessary network infrastructure in the remaining schools has already been completed. Now the work of establishing connections is underway and there are instructions to complete it as soon as possible. Emphasis has been placed on ensuring necessary support from the educational institutions in providing connections and coordination.

Those concerned say that if this project

is implemented, it will usher in a new era in primary education in the country. Through broadband internet connection, teachers and students will be able to easily become familiar with online educational materials and technology-based education methods.
