The Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime

(CTTC) unit of Dhaka Metropolitan Police

has arrested five members of an organized robbery gang along with 136 mobile phones stolen in the capital's Gulistan. The arrested are Ujjal, Sohag, Siam, Abdullah Al Noman and Zahidul Islam. A four-member team of the CTTC's Special Action Group conducted the raid in front of the Gulistan City Hall on Monday.

The arrested people used to bring stolen mobile phones from different parts of the country including the capital to Dhaka and sell them in Gulistan and surrounding areas. There are multiple charges against them. Earlier, on January 27 of this year, the CTTC arrested a person named Md. Kausar from Jatrabari area with 50 stolen mobile phones. A case was filed with Jatrabari Police Station on January 28 in this incident. Based on the information received during the investigation of that case, five people were arrested during Monday's operation, including the recovery of mobile phones. The arrested people have been sent to court in a case filed by Jatrabari Police Station.

Three arrested with fake notes worth one

lakh taka in Paltan: The Wari Division of the Detective Branch (DB) of the DMP has arrested three people with fake notes worth one lakh taka from the Paltan area of ​​the capital. The arrested are Sagar, Al Amin Howlader and Babu Matabbar. They were arrested in a raid in front of the Gulistan Shopping Complex at 7:30 pm on Monday. The raid was led by the Organized Crime and Vehicle Theft Prevention Team of the Wari Division of the DB. DB sources said that based on secret information, it was learned that some people were staying in the Gulistan area with the intention of selling fake notes. Based on such information, the team conducted a raid there. When they tried to escape after sensing the presence of the police, all three were arrested. At that time, fake notes worth one lakh taka were recovered from their custody.

It is learned that the arrested people

had been selling fake notes in shops and business establishments in various districts of the country including the capital for a long time. They were planning to distribute fake notes on a large scale ahead of the upcoming Eid-ul-Azha. A review of records showed that there are four cases against Sagar at Shahali Police Station, four cases against Al Amin at Mirpur Model, Patuakhali's Dashmina and Shyampur Police Stations. There is one case against Babu Matbar at Tongi East Police Station. A case has been filed under the Special Powers Act at Paltan Police Station in this incident. Legal action is underway against the arrested.
