There is still scope to use

NBR Chairman Abdur Rahman Khan said t

imited scope for black money laundering has been made to provide an 'exit route' for those interested in legalizing money that has remained undisclosed for various reasons. He made these remarks at the post-budget press conference of the Financial Advisor at the Osmani Memorial Auditorium in the capital on Tuesday, in response to a question about the possibility of black money laundering proposed in the budget.

On Monday, the Finance Minister

presented a budget of Tk 7,89,999 crore for the 2025-26 fiscal year. It has provided an opportunity to legalize undisclosed money by investing it in the housing sector. However, for this, taxes will have to be paid several times higher than the current rate.

Salehuddin Ahmed admitted at a press conference that "nothing good has happened" by allowing the possibility of legalizing undisclosed income even in the budget of the interim government, which was aimed at "anti-discrimination".

He said, "We are not saying

that we are doing a very good thing by giving the opportunity to turn black money into white."

Before the financial advisor's speech, the NBR chairman said that the opportunity to legalize undisclosed money on a limited scale has been provided to have an 'exit route'.

The NBR Chairman said,

"We have repealed the earlier provision of converting black money to white by paying 15 percent tax immediately after the new government came to power. There was another provision on black money which was expiring on June 30. We did not extend that. That was if someone buys land or a flat-house and pays a little more tax, the government or other authorities will not question it. We did not extend that either."
