Another person injured in clash

Another injured person, Yunus Ali (62), died in a

clash between two BNP factions

in Kaliganj, Jhenaidah. He died while undergoing treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital early Wednesday. Earlier, Yunus Ali's brother, Mohabbat Ali, died in the same clash.

The matter was confirmed by Yunus Ali's nephew, Advocate Zillur Rahman. The deceased Yunus Ali is the son of the deceased Habibar Rahman of Nakobaria village in the upazila.

Since the clash, about 35 to 40 houses have been vandalized, looted and set on fire in various villages of the union. On Tuesday afternoon, Mohabbat Ali's son Enamul filed a case with Kaliganj police station. In it, 58 people have been named and 30 to 40 unidentified people have been named as accused.

Locals said that Arif Hossain had been in a long-standing dispute with Nazrul Islam of Jamal Union over dominance. Nazrul was involved in Awami League politics. After August 5, he joined the BNP and became desperate to increase his influence in the union. As a result, Nazrul Islam Molla's supporters attacked Nakobaria village of the union on the morning of May 1. At that time, Arif's supporters put up resistance.

Later, people from both sides engaged

in a clash with indigenous weapons. At least five people were injured in the incident. The injured were rescued and admitted to the Upazila Health Complex. One of them, Mohabbat Hossain, was referred to Faridpur when his condition was critical. He died at Faridpur Hospital that afternoon.

Meanwhile, the locals allege that the police were informed about the possibility of a counter-attack by the two sides for several days, but they did not take action. They claim that the police were informed about the matter some time before the clash. However, they did not take action. The police were present in the union even during the incident of vandalism and looting of houses.

Tariqul Islam of Chhota Talian village said,

"When the news of the death of Nazrul's supporter Mohabbat Ali reached the area around noon, about 35 to 40 houses in different villages of the union were vandalized and looted. At that time, cows, rice and household furniture were taken away. I am very worried about my wife and children at home. Not even a glass of water is left in the house."

Jolly Khatun, a resident of Natopara area,

said, "On Monday afternoon, 20 to 30 people suddenly came and attacked our house. They vandalized and looted. They also took away the gold ornaments made for my sister's wedding."

Kaliganj Police Station OC Shahidul Islam Howlader said, "Yunus Ali, who was injured in the clash between the two sides, has died. Two people have died in this. The police are working to control the situation." Asked if the fear of the clash was reported earlier, he said, "No one informed me earlier."
