Kushiyara water level above danger

The water level of the Kushiyara River has increased due

hilly slopes and continuous rain.

The water of the Kushiyara River is flowing above the danger level at Fenchuganj point in Sylhet. This has flooded the low-lying areas of the upazila.

According to sources from the Sylhet Water Development Board (PWDB), the water level at the Fenchuganj point of the Kushiara River was 10.04 meters high as of 11:00 am on Wednesday, which is 0.63 meters above the danger level.

Meanwhile, the rising water level

of Kushiyara has flooded several low-lying areas of Sadar, Ghilachhara, North Kushiyara and North Fenchuganj unions of the upazila. Cropland and homes have been damaged.

Paubo officials said that the water levels in the rivers are rising rapidly due to the excess water coming down from the hilly areas of India and continuous rainfall. The impact of upstream floods is especially severe at the border points.

Sylhet District PAUBO Deputy

Assistant Engineer (Fenchuganj, Balaganj and Osmaninagar) Md. Golam Bari said, 'The amount of rainfall will decrease in two days. Then the water will decrease a little.'

The upazila administration said that the relevant departments have been put on alert to deal with the flood situation. Residents of low-lying areas and flood-prone areas have been asked to be prepared. Upazila Executive Officer Mohammad Shafiqul Islam said, "We are on the highest alert to monitor and deal with the flood situation. Residents of remote and flood-prone areas have been asked to be alert. All kinds of preparations have been made to evacuate them to safe places if necessary."
