Thirteen families affected by the fire in Dahor

Moshiahati Baredapara village

of Abhaynagar upazila of Jessore are trying to recover. House renovation work is underway in every house that was reduced to rubble in the fire. The women of the house are taking out burnt items from inside the house. Again, in the courtyard of some houses, the masons are building a house with bamboo wood. Some are even climbing up the roof of the house and installing bamboo wood.

Some women are building stoves in the courtyards because they don't have a kitchen. All in all, new activities have begun in homes that were silent with the smell of burning until now. The Hindu village of Baredapara seems to be waking up anew with the sound of family members and the hammering of the masons.

A civic delegation from Dhaka

visited the homes of the victims on Tuesday, calling for punishment of the culprits and adequate relief assistance for the victims.

It is learned that on May 22, miscreants hacked and shot Tariqul Islam, the president of the upazila's municipal farmers' party, in a house in Abhaynagar Dahar Moshiahati village of Jessore. Relatives allege that he was called to the house of Piltu Biswas in Baredapara of the village and killed due to a dispute over the lease of the enclosure. After this incident, a group of people set fire to 18 houses of Piltu Biswas' neighbors at night. Before that, looting, vandalism and beatings took place. At least 10 people were injured during this time.

The victim's family has filed two separate cases in connection with the arson incident. Police have arrested at least 11 people in the two cases.
