NDTV reported this in a report on Wednesday (June 4).
The British government announced on Wednesday that the new drone package will cost 350 million pounds (about 473 million US dollars), part of a 4.5 billion pound military aid plan for Ukraine.
British Defense Secretary John Healy will formally announce the plan at a meeting of the 50-nation Ukraine Defense Contact Group in Brussels, which is being jointly hosted by the United Kingdom and Germany.
“The UK is strengthening its commitment
to Ukraine – this year alone, achieving a major milestone in delivering millions of drones and vital artillery ammunition,” Healy said in a statement ahead of the meeting.
The UK government on Monday approved an independently produced Strategic Defence Review, which emphasizes technology-driven and more destructive defences – particularly to counter emerging threats like Russia.
The UK, learning from the more
than three-year war in Ukraine, says drones are now changing the battlefield, and it wants to use that experience in its own defense strategy.
In addition to supplying drones, the UK said it has sent 140,000 artillery shells to Ukraine since January and will spend an additional £247 million this year on training Ukrainian troops.
