Various media outlets are claiming that
the freedom fighter titles of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and four national leaders have been revoked. However, Cultural Affairs Advisor Mustafa Sarwar Farooqui has termed the matter as false.
The cultural affairs advisor announced the matter in a verified Facebook post on Wednesday afternoon.
In the post, he wrote, 'Dear brothers and sisters, the cancellation of freedom fighter certificates of liberation war leaders including Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, Tajuddin Ahmed, is fake news. The new ordinance clearly recognizes all members of the Mujibnagar government as freedom fighters. As proof that the freedom fighter certificate of any member of the Mujibnagar government has been cancelled, a screenshot of the ordinance has been given in the comments.'
Farooqui shared a screenshot
of the gazette in the comment. It reads, 'Armed forces, East Pakistan Rifles (EPR), Police forces, Mukti Bahini, Government of Bangladesh in exile (Mujibnagar Government) and other forces recognized by that government, Naval Commandos, Kilo Force, ASAR members and the following citizens of Bangladesh will also be included as heroic freedom fighters.'
Meanwhile, on Wednesday morning,
Advisor to the Ministry of Liberation War Affairs, Faruk-e-Azam, told private broadcaster Jamuna Television that Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and four national leaders were freedom fighters.
He said, "Those who were in the Mujib Nagar government are freedom fighters; however, the officials and employees of that government will be considered associate freedom fighters."
