Khamenei's threat, rejecting

Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has said

proposed nuclear deal is against Iran's

national interests, amid a sharp disagreement between Tehran and Washington over the country's continued uranium enrichment.

Negotiations on a new nuclear deal began after US President Donald Trump abandoned the deal in 2018. The US and Iran have held five rounds of talks since April. So far, no new agreement has been reached.

Iran said on Saturday that it had received some elements of the US proposal through Oman's mediation, but did not disclose details.

In a televised speech, Khamenei said the US proposal was 100 percent contrary to the ideals of the 1979 Islamic Revolution.

The uranium enrichment issue

has become the most controversial aspect of the agreement.

Trump announced that his administration would not allow any uranium enrichment, but Tehran insisted that it was its right.

Khamenei said uranium enrichment is the "keystone" of Iran's nuclear program. The US has no say in this.

He also said, "Even if we have 100 nuclear power plants, but they don't have the capacity to produce energy, then they will have no function."

He also said, "If we cannot produce this fuel ourselves, we will be forced to go to America. Where they can impose dozens of conditions."
