Md. Farukul Islam, the elder brother of murder victim Tajul Islam, filed the case at the Chandpur Sadar Amli Court on Wednesday afternoon.

Judge Senior Judicial Magistrate Md. Yasin Arafat took cognizance of the case and ordered an FIR to be filed at Chandpur Sadar Model Police Station within the next 24 hours.

The victim is Chhatra Dal

leader Tajul Islam and the plaintiff is Md. Farukul Islam, son of Anwar Ullah Patwari of Bakharpur village, Chandra Union No. 12, Sadar Upazila.

140 named accused and 300 to 350 unknown accused were named in the case. Notable accused among them are former minister Dr. Dipu Moni's elder brother Dr. JR Wadud Tipu, former mayor of Chandpur Municipality Md. Zillur Rahman Jewel, Bangladesh Awami League organizing secretary Sujit Roy Nandi, Chandpur District Awami League general secretary Abu Nayem Patwari Dulal.

The details of the case reveal that on Monday, December 30, 2013, at around 10 am, Awami League and its affiliated support groups launched a massive attack and opened fire on a protest march demanding a caretaker government in front of the Chandpur District Shilpakala Academy in light of the 18-party alliance's central program. In that attack, Chhatra Dal leader Tajul Islam (Ratan) was shot in the left side of the chest and died on the spot. At the same time, about 300 people from BNP and its affiliated organizations were injured.

After this incident,

the authorities failed to file a case due to the lack of an autopsy and investigation report on the deceased on the instructions of accused 1 and 2, and due to the hostile political environment and threats from the accused, they were terrified and failed to file a case. After August 5 last year, the overall situation changed due to the liberation from dictatorship and the restoration of freedom of speech, which delayed the filing of the case.

Confirming the truth about the case at night, plaintiff Md. Farukul Islam said, "Due to the unfavorable environment at the time of the incident and various threats from the defendant, it was not possible to file a case. I have filed a case even though it is delayed for justice. I hope I will get justice through the court."

Abdul Quader Jilani Milton,

the plaintiff's lawyer, said that there was no environment to file a case after the incident. Therefore, the plaintiff filed the case after almost a decade.

He also said, "I hope the plaintiff will receive justice through the court based on the evidence."
