Three godowns have been gutted in a fire at Nayani

Bazar in Sherpur town

. The affected traders claim that the damage is worth Tk 5 million.

The fire broke out inside the rice market next to the Sherpur Chamber of Commerce office around 4 am on Thursday. No casualties were reported as there were no people in the market at the time.

Eyewitnesses said that in

the early hours of the morning, locals suddenly saw flames coming out of the rice market in front of the DC office gate. They later informed the fire service. Upon receiving the information, two units of the Sherpur Fire Service quickly reached the spot and brought the fire under control after an hour of effort.

Abdul Quader, sub-officer

of Sherpur Fire Service Station, said that three godowns were damaged in the fire. These godowns were used to store plastic nets, jute ropes, bamboo furniture, brooms and clay pots and pans. It is not yet known how the fire started. However, an investigation is underway.
