Gaza situation worse than hell: Red

said the situation in Gaza had become worse than hell

"Humanity is failing," he told the BBC at the organization's headquarters in Geneva. "States are not doing enough to stop the war, end the suffering of the Palestinians and free the Israeli hostages."

He said that the human dignity of the Palestinians has been stripped away and international laws on humanitarian activities are being dismantled.

The ICRC is an international

organization that operates in war zones. It has 130 staff in Gaza, most of whom are Palestinian.

The organization runs a surgical hospital in the southern Gaza city of Rafah. The recent casualties at an aid distribution center near the hospital.

The agency said 184 people were brought to the hospital yesterday morning, 19 of whom were dead. Eight more died later.

The ICRC, commonly known as the Red Cross, is considered the guardian of the Geneva Conventions, which were created after World War II to protect civilians in war.

Mirjana Spoljaric says there are rules of war and they apply to all sides.
