Imran Khan becomes PTI's patron

Imran Khan, the founding chairman of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf

has declared himself the party's

'patron-in-chief'. Barrister Gauhar Ali Khan will now serve as the chairman of the embattled party. Imran will take all decisions.

Speaking to reporters outside Rawalpindi's Adiala Jail on Tuesday, Gauhar said former Prime Minister Imran Khan himself will lead a "nationwide mass movement" from prison. Ali Amin, Omar Ayub and Salman Akram Raza have been given new responsibilities, The Dawn and The Express Tribune reported.

Barrister Gauhar said, "All instructions regarding the movement will be conveyed through the Leader of the Opposition Omar Ayub Khan." Earlier, Imran Khan, in a message on his official X (formerly Twitter) account, had urged the people to be ready for protest programs across the country.

The post came at a time when his sister Aleema Khan proposed a 'give and take formula' for Imran Khan's release. Although Imran Khan himself does not have access to his social media accounts, PTI did not say who was managing the post.

Barrister Gauhar also dismissed rumours that she was being removed from her post. She said that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur will not be leading the upcoming protest. Instead, different people will be given different responsibilities.

In response to a question,

Gauhar said that she has always been in favor of dialogue and that PTI's talks with the establishment have not ended yet.

Earlier, at a press conference on Saturday, Imran's lawyer and top party leader Senator Ali Zafar said that Imran Khan had called the movement against the PML-N-led central government as "final stage" and asked party leaders to make necessary preparations.

He said, 'We will protest across the country, and I will lead from jail' - Imran Khan expressed his position in these words. According to Imran Khan, 'We are not getting any justice from the courts or the administration. Our backs are against the wall, so we have no option but to take to the streets.'
