The proposed budget for the fiscal year 2025-2026 calls for

focus on people rather than physical

The theme of this year's budget is 'building a fair and sustainable economic system.' But some of the steps in the revenue sector are contradictory to this. Overall, this budget is consistent with the estimates. However, it is disappointing against expectations. There is a lack of tax fairness. The opportunity to whiten black money is not consistent with the July movement.

These remarks were made at a budget analysis organized by the private research organization Center for Policy Dialogue (CPD) at a local hotel in the capital on Tuesday.

CPD Special Fellow Dr. Mostafizur Rahman spoke at the event. Executive Director Dr. Fahmida Khatun presented the keynote address. In addition, the organization's Research Director Dr. Khandaker Golam Moazzem and other senior officials were present at the event. The organization says that this budget could have provided the expected solution to the people and businessmen of the country. But it failed there. 1 percent turnover tax has been imposed on all types of businesses. This is not a good move. Tax at source has been increased in the internet, electricity and house rental sectors. This will increase the expenses of the common people. Several weaknesses have been identified in the budget. These include - income-expenditure gap, weakness in tax collection, uncertainty in investment and insufficient allocation to the human development sector. As a result, there are major risks in the implementation of the budget.

Dr. Mostafizur Rahman said,

'The revenue department is as before. It has not been possible to restructure this department so far. In this year's budget, the government has surrendered to the revenue department in a way. He said, there is a big weakness in revenue revenue. Currently, Bangladesh's revenue revenue is about 7 percent in proportion to the gross domestic product (GDP). But in Asia, this rate is 16 to 17 percent. In Nepal, it is 22 percent. As a result, as long as revenue revenue cannot be increased, inequality will not decrease. Expenditure will not increase either.
