7.5 billion taka in 3 days, a message

Even before Eid-ul-Adha, remittances or expatriate i

income have brought a message

of relief to the country's economy. In just three days, expatriate Bangladeshis have sent back foreign currency equivalent to 604 million US dollars. In local currency (based on 123 taka per dollar), the amount stands at more than 7,429 million taka.

According to the latest data from Bangladesh Bank, remittances worth $604 million were received in the first three days of June (June 1-3). This large amount of remittance is having a positive impact on the country's economy and has boosted the Eid market.

Central bank officials say that with

Eid-ul-Azha approaching, expatriates usually send more money home to buy cows, goats and other sacrificial animals, new clothes, gifts and family expenses. Remittance flows usually increase during this time, and this year was no exception.

The second highest remittance in the country's history was received in the just-ended month of May, amounting to 2.97 billion US dollars, or 36,234 billion taka in Bangladeshi currency (122 taka per dollar).

According to Bangladesh Bank data, remittances have been exceeding two billion every month since the interim government took office. So far, a total of $27.5 billion 70 million in remittances have come into the country from July to May (the first 11 months) of the current fiscal year, which was $21.37 billion 40 million in the first 11 months (July-May) of the 2023-24 fiscal year. Accordingly, $6.13 billion or $6.133 billion more has come in the first 11 months of the current fiscal year than the same period of the last fiscal year.
