Like other years, this year too, the demand for small and medium-sized cattle is high at the sacrificial animal market. This has created a wrinkle of worry on the foreheads of farmers and traders who bring large cattle. Those who have come to the market with the animals said that buyers are not quoting the prices of large cattle as expected.

Shakib Hossain, a young farmer from Charkachia village in Uttar Charbangshi UP, has come to Raipur Municipality's Notunbazar market with 22 cows, both big and small. However, the farmer has not been able to sell a single cow yet. Shakib said, "The prices of everything have increased. Our expenses for raising cows have increased a lot. But buyers are not asking prices. I am worried because the cows are not being sold."

Abdul Khalek, a farmer from Char Ababil village, said, "The demand for large cattle is low, and as a result, the price is low. I fear losses."

Akter Hossain of Keroa village said, "I brought 25 big cows. Out of them, I sold only 12. However, I was forced to sell the cows at a much lower price than expected."

Habibur Rahman, a buyer from the Dalal Bazar area, said, "The supply of animals in the market is adequate. Small-sized cows are being sold for 70 to 80 thousand taka, medium-sized cows for 90 thousand to 150 thousand taka, and large cows for 120 thousand to 250 thousand taka."

According to the Upazila Livestock Office, the number of animals ready for sacrifice in the upazila this time is 19,984. Of these, 9,632 are cows, 3,524 are goats, 734 are sheep and 13,890 are buffaloes.

Upazila Livestock Officer Dr. Ataur Rahman said that there will be an additional surplus of 6,000 animals to meet the needs of the upazila. Veterinary teams have been deployed at each market to ensure the purchase of healthy and safe animals.

He said, "In Raipur, animals are fattened naturally without artificial drugs, which attracts buyers."

Senior Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) (Raipur and Ramganj Upazila Circle) Jamilul Haque said, "The police are on alert to prevent cattle trucks and vendors from becoming victims of extortion and harassment and to prevent counterfeit money."
