Chhatra Dal has been suspended.
The committee was suspended 20 days after its formation in the wake of the agitation of those deprived of posts. The committee was suspended through a press release on Wednesday night.
The notification signed by Chhatra Dal Central Committee President Rakibul Islam Rakib, General Secretary Nasir Uddin Nasir and Office Secretary Md. Jahangir Alam said that in the wake of the movement of those deprived of posts, the newly formed committee of Comilla South District Chhatra Dal has been suspended until further instructions.
Party sources said that on May 15,
a six-member partial committee of Comilla South District Chhatra Dal was announced with Kazi Jobair Alam Jilani as the president and Emdadul Haque Dhiman as the general secretary. After the committee was announced, a large section of the party started a movement after not getting the desired posts. This movement turned violent at one stage.
On the night of the committee announcement,
the leaders of the deposed Chhatra Dal created a blockade at Pubali Chattar in Kandipar, Comilla city. On May 17, demanding the cancellation of the committee announced, the deposed Chhatra Dal broke the locks of the BNP party office in Kandipar area of Comilla city, vandalized and set it on fire. Important party documents, furniture and various office supplies were burnt in the fire.
