Hamza Chowdhury in Dhaka, fans

The long wait is over. Bangladesh national football team midfielder Hamza

Chowdhury has finally set foot in Dhaka.

Hundreds of football fans gathered at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on Monday morning, ignoring the inclement weather. Some came from Munshiganj and some from Narsingdi to catch a glimpse of the British expatriate star.

Hamza Chowdhury

The British-Bangladeshi midfielder, who plays for Sheffield United, arrived in Dhaka from England at 11:15 am. He went straight to the team hotel from the airport. He is scheduled to join training in the afternoon. The main goal is the important Asian Cup qualifier against Singapore on June 10.

The emotion surrounding Hamza's arrival is palpable. Many people had red-green flags in their hands. Some had made posters by hand. Ashiq, a devotee from Narsingdi, said, "I couldn't get a ticket, so I came from such a distance with great difficulty just to see Hamza."

Hamza made his debut for the national team in March against India in the Asian Cup qualifier in Shillong. He performed brilliantly in that match. He is likely to make his debut at home in the Singapore match. However, coach Javier Cabrera has indicated that he will be rested for a friendly match against Bhutan on June 4.

Hamza has not had a great time in club

football in England. His loan team Sheffield United lost in the Championship play-offs, failing to secure promotion to the Premier League. Although a return to Leicester City is a possibility, his focus is now on the national team.
