Crowds gather around 'Kalapahar

and 'Lal Mia' at Hazaribagh Market, owners disappointed

The capital's Hazaribagh Qurbani market

is bustling with cattle buying and selling. Trucks bring in various sizes of sacrificial animals every day. Among them, two huge bulls, 'Kalapahar' and 'Lal Mia', are catching everyone's attention. The cows kept next to Gate No. 1 of the market adjacent to Gate No. 5 of BDR are one of the attractions of the market. However, two traders, Shajahan Bepari and Humayun Kabir Mollah, are spending their days in despair after not getting the expected price.

Shajahan Bepari has raised his bull 'Kalapahar' like a child for 37 months. This foreign-breed cow, seven hands long, more than five feet tall and weighing 24 maunds, has been fed high-quality food - husk, kura, khesari, boot dal, kher grass and many other things. Shajahan claims that it is one of the calmest and healthiest cows in the market. He is asking for a price of 1 million taka for the cow.

But the reality of the market is different.

Despite being at the market for three days, only one or two buyers have shown interest, and even then they have offered a maximum of 4 lakh taka.

Shajahan said, "We have suffered countless hardships for 37 months with this cow. An average of 700-800 taka has been spent every day. Now, if at least the expenses are covered, that is the big deal. I am not looking for profit; I will give it if I get 6 lakh taka."

He further said, "

It is said that there are no buyers for big cows in Hazaribagh market. Small cows seem to be more in demand. I see that 60 percent of the small cows have already been sold. But no one is looking at such cows. We are really mentally broken."
