Nayan promises to contribute to

the development of Magura's Ganges bathing fair and ghats

A two-day Ganges Bathing Fair

has begun on the banks of the Nabaganga River in Magura, initiated by Hindus from 28 villages of Mohammadpur, Shalikha and Sadar upazilas in Gangarampur.

On this occasion, a discussion meeting and a Nama Yajna ceremony of Lord Krishna were organized in the temple premises in the afternoon. Member Secretary of Dhaka Metropolitan South Jubo Dal, Rabiul Islam Nayan, was present as the chief guest at the discussion meeting.

Rabiul Islam Nayan, a BNP candidate for the Magura-2 constituency in the 13th National Parliament election, exchanged greetings with the devotees present. He promised to contribute to the development and prosperity of the Kali Temple and Gangasnan Ghat, famous pilgrimage sites for Hindus in the area.

More than 5,000 pilgrims from

different regions including Magura, Jessore, and Narail gathered at the centenary fair organized at the premises of Gangarampur Kali Mandir in Shalikha Upazila on Thursday.

According to Hindu mythology, the Ganges River is seen as a mother. Its waters are also considered sacred.

It is said that if the ashes of a deceased person are not immersed in the Ganges after death, then the soul cannot be liberated.

That is why thousands of people

gather in the morning at the Nabaganga River adjacent to the Gangarampur Kali Mandir Temple to attain virtue and atone for sins. They pray for freedom from their sins, heat, and diseases by bowing down to the river, touching it, bathing in it, drinking its water, and performing pujas.
