57% of Israelis want Netanyahu

Fifty-seven percent of Israelis want early elections to

remove Prime Minister Benjamin

Netanyahu from power, according to a nationwide poll conducted by Israel-based broadcaster Channel Twelve.

Those who took a stance against Netanyahu in the survey said that Netanyahu launched the operation in Gaza promising to eliminate Israeli hostages held there and Hamas, the group that rules the Gaza Strip. But despite more than a year and a half of war, Hamas has not been destroyed and not all the hostages have yet been returned.

The total number of seats in the Knesset, Israel's parliament, is 120. So if a party or coalition wants to form a government, that party or coalition must win at least 61 seats.

The survey results show that if elections

were held in Israel now, the New Right political party led by former Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett would win the most seats in the Knesset. The party would win 24 seats in parliament. After that, the second and third positions would be occupied by the Likud Party led by Netanyahu (22 seats) and the Democratic Party led by Yair Golan (12), respectively.

The survey results also indicate that after the 58 seats are divided among the three major parties, the remaining seats will be won by the Shas party led by Aryeh Deri with 10 seats, the Yisrael Beiteinu party led by Avigdor Lieberman with 10 seats, the Yesh Adit party led by former Prime Minister Yair Lapid with 9 seats, the United Torah Judaism party led by Yitzhak Goldknop with 8 seats, and the Otzah Yehudit party led by Itamar Ben-Givre with 8 seats.

In addition, the National Unity

Party led by Benny Gantz will receive 7 seats, and Hadash-Ta'al and United Arab will each receive 5 seats.

In other words, the survey results indicate that the popularity of Netanyahu and the government led by him in Israel has declined, but at this moment, no party has the popularity to win the election and form a government on its own.

Meanwhile, Reuters reported that Netanyahu is under pressure within the government over the Gaza operation, as calls for early elections in Israel are growing stronger by the day and two members of the current wartime cabinet have resigned from the government coalition and joined the opposition.
