A businessman named Golam Mostafa, his wife and children were killed in a head-on collision between a truck and a motorcycle on the highway in front of a tobacco center adjacent to Bhatai Bazar in the upazila.

The tragic accident took place around 3:45 pm on Thursday. The death of all members of the same family has cast a shadow of mourning over the village. Instead of Eid joy, the family has been gripped by deep grief.

Golam Mostafa (45) is the son of Babar Ali Mandal of Huda Mailmari village in Shailkupar.

Eyewitness Tozammel Haque Tozam of Bhatai Bazar said that Golam Mostafa was returning home from Jhenaidah city on a motorcycle with his wife Selina Khatun (35) and 8-year-old child Mahim after Eid shopping. When they reached the tobacco center on the Bhatai-Phuhari connection road on the Jhenaidah-Kushtia highway,

a truck loaded with sand ran over them.

The child Mahim died on the spot. When the seriously injured wife Selina and husband Golam Mostafa were taken to Jhenaidah Sadar Hospital, the emergency department doctors declared them dead.

On the other hand, Liton and Hasibul Islam of Mailmari village said that Golam Mostafa, along with his wife and children, went to Jhenaidah town for Eid shopping in the afternoon. They were killed on their way home.

OC Mrityunjoy Biswas said that a businessman along with his wife and children were killed in a head-on collision between a truck and a motorcycle. Their bodies have been kept at the Sadar Hospital morgue.

He added that the truck has been seized but the driver has fled.
