Barhatta AL president arrested again

Khairul Kabir Khokon, the president of Barhatta Upazila Awami League

and former chairman of the Upazila

Parishad in Netrokona, has been arrested again at the main gate of the prison after being released on bail.

He was arrested by Netrokona Model Police Station before Wednesday evening. He was later arrested as a suspect in a case filed against Awami League leaders at Netrokona Model Police Station.

Khairul Kabir's family alleges that multiple false cases have been filed against him under the Sabotage and Special Powers Acts to harass him. Although he was granted bail in these cases, the police have arrested him again.

According to police and party sources,

after the fall of the Awami League government on August 5, at least four cases were filed at Barhatta Police Station against leaders and activists of the Awami League and its affiliated organizations under the Sabotage and Special Powers Act. Khairul Kabir was named as an accused in all four cases. On the night of September 11, RAB-14 arrested Khairul Kabir from the Kalyanpur area of the capital. Later, he was arrested and sent to jail in a case filed in connection with the attack on protesters on August 4 during the anti-discrimination movement.

Khairul Kabir was released from jail on bail from the High Court in these cases before Wednesday evening. But as he was standing in front of the main gate, Netrokona Model Police Station arrested him again.

When asked, Model Police Station

Officer-in-Charge (OC) Kazi Shahnewaz said, Khairul Kabir was arrested from Kurpar area. He was arrested as a suspect in a case filed against him for vandalizing the BNP party office in the city's Chhota Bazar area. He was handed over to the court on Thursday afternoon.

A relative of Khairul Kabir said, "There is no more shameful incident than the way the police took this leader, who was granted bail by the High Court, from the jail gate. The case in which he was arrested as an unknown accused is also a false case. These cases were basically filed to harass him."

It has been found that since August 17,

at least 68 political cases have been filed against leaders and activists of the Awami League and its affiliated organizations in 10 police stations in Netrokona. More than 6,000 people have been accused in these cases. Many have been arrested and are in jail.
