by the erosion of the Padma River, launch services were shifted to ferry ghat number 2 on an emergency basis. But the authorities have completely stopped launch services from 6:30 pm on Friday (August 8) as the soil moved away from under the ramp of the ferry ghat due to strong currents. As a result, launch communication with 21 districts in the southwestern region by water has been temporarily cut off.
Paturia Ghat
Paturia Launch Ghat Manager Panna Lal Nandi confirmed the matter around 7 pm and said, "On Tuesday afternoon, the launches were moved to the pontoon of Ferry Ghat No. 2 next door. Passengers were being transferred from there. This evening, the cable of one ramp broke, and the ground beneath another one shifted. This could cause the cable to break at any time. We have moved the launches to a safe place to avoid risk."
Earlier on Tuesday (August 5) afternoon,
a jetty at Paturia launch pier collapsed due to strong currents in the Padma and another became vulnerable. Later, launch services were shifted to ferry pier number 2 on an emergency basis and passenger transport was resumed on a limited scale. But as the ramp was damaged again, launch operations were completely stopped.
Paturia Launch Ghat is one of the main waterways for people traveling to 21 districts in the southwestern part of the country.
