AFC Women's U-20 Asian Cup qualifiers.
Bangladesh's women's team thrashed East Timor 8-0 in their second match in Laos on Friday. Bangladesh led 4-0 at half-time.
Bangladesh's Trishna Rani scored a hat-trick. Sinha Jahan Shikha, Shanti Mardi, Nabiron, Sagarika and Munki Akhter scored the other five goals.
Earlier, Bangladesh defeated host Laos 3-1 in their first match of the tournament.
Bangladesh needed a big margin in addition to winning today. With that in mind, Peter Butler's team started playing aggressively from the start. However, Bangladesh were not scoring goals in the beginning. Although Bangladesh won 8-0, they had to wait 20 minutes to open the scoring.
Bangladesh took the lead in the
20th minute through a goal by Sinha Jahan Shikha . Then in the 32nd minute, Shanti Mardi achieved a unique feat with an Olympic goal. Her corner kick went into the net without anyone touching it. In football, such a goal is known as an Olympic goal.
Afaida Khandkara went into the break leading 4-0 with a goal from Nabiran in the 36th minute and Trishna just before the break.
Butler replaced several players after the break and used his newfound strength to put more pressure on the opposition. Trishna's second goal in the 57th minute made Bangladesh's lead 5-0.
Sagarika completed a hat-trick in
the 73rd minute and Trishna in the 83rd minute to take Bangladesh ahead 7-0. Munki's goal in injury time gave Bangladesh a huge 8-0 victory.
Bangladesh is currently at the top of the table with a full 6 points from two wins. South Korea will play against Laos in the other group match in the evening. Bangladesh's last match is against South Korea on August 10. The result of that match will determine the fate of Group 'H'.
The group champion will advance
to the final round of the AFC Asian Cup 2026. The top three of the eight runner-up teams will also receive tickets to the tournament to be held in Thailand.
Bangladesh still keeps their dream of reaching the finals alive by winning two matches.
