Lifestyle Desk : One of the most reliable and safe means of money transaction is cheque. As safe as it may be, some precautions should be taken when signing a check and giving it to someone. Otherwise, the check may be cancelled.

• The name of the payee should be written on the cheque. But one should be very careful while writing that name. Suppose you write the name of someone named Amit Roy. Keep space between name and title. Otherwise, it will not be too much of a problem to make Amit Amita. To avoid such frauds, add the account number of the person to whom you are paying next to their name.
• When the name of the person to pay is written, draw a line next to his name.
• If 'bearer cheque' is given to someone, please tick the 'Bearer' option. Suppose you are giving a 'bearer cheque' to someone, if the 'bearer' option is not ticked on that cheque, then anyone can withdraw money from that cheque.
• Write AC-Payee on the check. In that case, the check can be cashed only from the account of the person giving the cheque.
• Must put '/-' sign after depositing check amount. No one can cheat by putting any extra number in it. There should be no spaces between each number.
• The same signature you sign while opening a bank account should be the same when issuing a cheque. If you pay on behalf of a company, give the company's seal.
• If you have written something wrong on the cheque, sign the mistake above or below it.
